The Dog Days of Summer
Since I haven't written in this blog for a couple of years, hard to believe, I wanted to give an update. I am still going to write about food and wine and the Willamette Valley but, since I am now a Real Estate Broker, I wanted also write about the Real Estate industry and share information I have access to. I hope this finds everyone well.
There are so many things I love about Fall. It's just right around the corner. Although it's early to be talking about it, I'm so ready for the crisp cool weather after a summer of dry, dry heat. I have to say I'm looking forward to the rain.
The baby bunny's eyes are open today. Yes, I have baby bunnies. They are adorable. They cuddle and are very soft. This doesn't last however, because generally rabbits are not great pets to cuddle with. They do have their personalities if you are patient enough. I'm certain there's a reason that one of the most popular children's book is about a rabbit, "Peter Rabbit," Of course, authored by one of my favorite people, Beatrix Potter.
September weather is always beautiful. It's usually in the 70's, it rains some and then it's sunny. After this dry summer, it has been so nice not to have to water so much. My garden was not great this year, could be I was gone too much and the inconsistent watering didn't help. I do have some pumpkins, butternut squash, crookneck squash, acorn squash, tomatoes, herbs galore, flowers, tons of sunflowers, peppers and lots of basil. I suppose now as I write about it, it doesn't seem so bad. I learned a lot about soil maintenance and keeping the chickens out of the garden as essential skills to have as a gardener. Needless to say plans for next year are in the works.
So, as summer winds down, I love to get back to my little corner by the window. It looks out into my neighborhood and I can see the sun coming up through the trees. It's my place to be quiet. I welcome Autumn and will enjoy these last few days of summer and end with these words.
“By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer’s best of weather And autumn’s best of cheer.” ~ Helen Hunt Jackson
“One must maintain a little bit of summer, even in the middle of winter.” ~ Henry David Thoreau
“Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.” ~ Sam Keen
